180 days, 180 degrees

We set sail in 180 days. In that amount of time, I will "do a 180" on my current state of fitness and appearance.

In 180 days, I will be a trimmer, healthier person. I will be a runner.

In 180 days, I will be sailing to the Bahamas with heartthrobs from my childhood. And I will look good doing it.

I'm behind on my running. It was very cold and rainy here for several days in a row. The last thing I want to happen is to get sick. Tomorrow I'm back on it. To accomplish my goal I need to run an average of 4.42 miles per day. Yikes. But I'm on it.

180 degrees in 180 days.

Another 2 miles down

Just 2 miles today. I went out early in the morning, and was going to go out again in the afternoon, but it's been raining since 11am.

So, another little tidbit to share with you all... I am running all of these miles either barefoot or in minimalistic footwear. Buying shoes has always been difficult for me. My feet are huge - long and wide. I can never find a pair of shoes that fits perfectly. I have ankle or foot pain in them when running or even walking. Then I read about barefoot running and thought I'd give it a try. Guess what? No pain in my feet at all. (Unless I were to, say, step on a piece of glass. But that hasn't happened yet. Fingers crossed. Knock on wood.)

803 miles... barefoot... or close to it...

Disclaimer: The weather is still nice here in NC. Once winter really hits, I may need to find a suitable alternative.

3.70 miles down!

Completed 3.7 miles on my first day! I'm feeling really good about that.

The Shuffle is loaded with NKOTB to keep me motivated. FYI, "Lights, Camera, Action" has a great running cadence.

I promise more interesting posts in the future. Stay tuned!

803 miles to go...

On May 14, 2010, I'll be setting sail with New Kids on the Block and 2000 of my Blockhead sisters. Before the ship sets sail, I will run the 803 miles from my front door to the Port of Miami.

Let me clarify... I won't actually be running to Miami, but each day I will run and count those miles towards my 803 miles.

Why the hell would I want to do this? Well, let me tell you... I used to be a runner. I have ran distances from marathons to half marathons to 5Ks. But about 2 years ago, I became ill and fell out of training. I was running on average 30 miles a week before I got sick, and I continued to eat like I was still putting those miles behind me. See where this is going? Yes, I gained weight. I lost all my conditioning. I could no longer run and I was fat.

But this cruise has given me something to look forward to. I don't want to board the ship with my future husband, Jon Knight, out of shape and size. I wanna be fit and healthy when we set sail for Half Moon Cay. I wanna be fit and healthy regardless, but this is a tangible goal. This gives me something to look forward to, a reward of sorts.

So, 803 miles to go...
